About The Trek
Upper Mustang, the former Kingdom of Lo, is one of Nepal's most unique and mystical destinations. This high-altitude rain shadow desert, culturally and geographically more Tibetan than Nepali, was closed to outsiders until 1992. Its ancient walled capital Lo Manthang, cave monasteries dating back to the 15th century, and dramatic ochre and crimson cliffs make it feel like stepping back in time. As a restricted area, it sees far fewer visitors than other Nepal trekking regions. The landscape is truly otherworldly — reminiscent of the Tibetan plateau with its wind-carved canyons and mani walls.
